Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. Because her father's death the family, it was managed by her grandmother, mom, and godparents. When she was a young girl, Ford suffered anxiety due to an obsessional disorder. Ford started acting in her teens and became part of the National Youth Theatre. After being admitted to Sylvia Young Theatre School for only a few days, Ford decided that it wasn't the ideal location for her. Ford later applied to be a student at the Central School of Speech and Drama and was accepted on her 4th attempt. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler, a regular character on Doctor Who. Ford earned her bachelor's degree in 1993. But, before then, Ford made a television debut when she appeared in Surgical Spirit in an episode that aired in 1990. Ford took the professional title of Catherine Tate. Tate made appearances on television during the Nineties in shows like The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. The stage was her main focus, and joined the company's season 2000-2001. But Tate quickly began gaining notice for her stand-up comedy, which she added to her show in 1996.
